Band History

    The Surrattsville High School Marching Hornets, under the direction of Mrs. Valerie C. Dent, are the first High-Stepping Marching Band in the history of Marching Bands at Surrattsville High School. Beginning in 1997 with only 55 Marching Band members, we have now grown to over 170 enthusiastic members.  With an ever growing percussion section under the direction of Mr. Kenneth Dent, the Surrattsville Marching Hornets have become a widely recognized group of musicians. The Marching Hornets include the "SHS Jade Elegance Majorettes",  the "SHS Emerald Essence Dancers", and the "SHS Flaming Flags".
